QEC • Solar & battery storage
Home battery storage for Gold Coast, Brisbane and Northern Rivers
Store your excess solar for later. Get practical advice on system compatibility, rebate eligibility and blackout backup before you commit.
Add a battery to existing solar — or start with both
If you already have solar, a battery may let you store excess daytime generation for use later. Your existing inverter, switchboard, solar output and usage need checking before a compatible system can be recommended.
For a new solar and battery system, we look at the roof, household energy use and battery together. A coordinated design can match daytime generation with the energy you need in the evening. QEC supplies the systems; installation is carried out by SAA-accredited installers.
Why consider 13–14 kWh of usable capacity?
The first 14 kWh of usable battery capacity attracts the full applicable rebate rate. That makes 13–14 kWh systems worth considering, but it does not make them the right size for every home.
Your evening usage, available solar generation, budget and backup needs matter more than buying the biggest battery. Capacity above 14 kWh still receives support, but at lower rates for each additional tier.
Blackout backup: what actually stays on?
A battery does not automatically keep your entire home running in a power cut. Backup needs compatible equipment and an installation configured to supply the agreed circuits when the grid goes down.
We discuss essentials such as the fridge, selected lights and internet, then check the required power and stored energy. Runtime depends on battery charge and the appliances in use. Whole-home backup, where suitable, must be specifically designed and quoted.

Federal battery rebate still available
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is still available and runs through 2030. The change on 1 May 2026 was a rate change, not a closing date.
The STC multiplier is 6.8 for May–December 2026 and drops to 5.7 from 1 January 2027. The installation date and eligibility rules matter; a booking or quote alone does not secure a rebate rate.
- First 14 kWh of usable capacity: 100% of the applicable rate.
- Capacity above 14 kWh up to 28 kWh: 60% of the applicable rate.
- Capacity above 28 kWh up to 50 kWh: 15% of the applicable rate.
These percentages apply to portions of usable capacity, not the total purchase price. The final discount depends on eligibility, certificate value and the installation details in your quote.
