Federal home battery rebate: Queensland 2026–2027
Correction: earlier wording suggesting the rebate was “ending” in May 2026 was outdated. The program continues through 2030. May 2026 changed the rate and capacity support, not the program's closing date.
For Gold Coast, Brisbane, South East Queensland and Northern Rivers homeowners, the rebate is one part of the decision. System suitability and a clear quote matter more than deadline pressure.
What changed in May 2026?
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is still available and runs through 2030. The change on 1 May 2026 was a rate change, not a closing date.
The STC multiplier is 6.8 for May–December 2026 and drops to 5.7 from 1 January 2027. The installation date and eligibility rules matter; a booking or quote alone does not secure a rebate rate.
- First 14 kWh of usable capacity: 100% of the applicable rate.
- Capacity above 14 kWh up to 28 kWh: 60% of the applicable rate.
- Capacity above 28 kWh up to 50 kWh: 15% of the applicable rate.
These percentages apply to portions of usable capacity, not the total purchase price. The final discount depends on eligibility, certificate value and the installation details in your quote.

What happens on 1 January 2027?
The multiplier steps down from 6.8 to 5.7. That changes certificate support for an eligible installation, but does not mean the program ends. Certificate value, usable capacity and eligibility affect the actual discount; a flat dollar-per-kWh promise is not a reliable quote.
A site visit is not a guaranteed rebate reservation
Installation and eligibility requirements must be met. We confirm likely scheduling and rebate assumptions in your quote rather than promising that an enquiry locks in a rate.
Choose the battery for your household
A 13–14 kWh system is worth considering because the first 14 kWh of usable capacity receives the full applicable rate. It is not a universal recommendation. Your evening demand, solar generation and backup priorities determine whether that size makes sense.
- Check the inverter and switchboard if adding a battery to existing solar.
- Confirm usable capacity rather than relying only on the product name.
- Ask which circuits can run during a blackout; backup requires a suitable configuration.
- Read the warranty, exclusions and installation scope before accepting a quote.

How the capacity tiers apply
Rate-weighted capacity: 14.00 kWh
Capacity above 14 kWh attracts a lower rate. This is not a dollar rebate, system recommendation or quote. Eligibility and certificate value must be confirmed at your free site visit.
